The most impressive sights are along the southern shores of the Bosphorus, which are located nearest to the city center:
–Topkapi Palace, which was a major residency of the Ottoman Sultans, for almost 400 years
–Maiden’s Tower, a small islet with many legends about the construction of the tower and its location
–Selimiye Barracks, is the Turkish army barracks which is located in the Uskudar district on the Asian part
–Dolmabahce Palace, the largest palace in Turkey, which contains elements of the Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical styles
–Ciragan Palace, a former Ottoman Palace, which is now a five-star hotel
–Yildiz Park & Palace, is a vast complex of former imperial Ottoman pavilions and villas
–Ortakoy mosque, which is a beautifully ornate structure, right on the pier of the village Ortakoy
–The Bosphorus Bridge, an impressive bridge, which connects Europe to Asia
Beyond the Bosphorus Bridge there are plenty more to see:
–Beylerbeyi Palace, a beautiful Imperial Ottoman summer residence
–Cengelkoy village, which is world-famous for the small cucumbers once grown there
–Kuleli Naval Academy, a millitary high school
–Arnavütkoy, with its photogenic Ottoman yali, which are wooden seaside mansions
–Rumeli Hisari, a mighty Fortress
–Bebek town, which is a historic resort area on Boshporus
–Bosphorus University
North of the Fatih Bridge, the second bridge across the Bosphorus:
–Anadolu Hisari, the mighty Fortress of Anatolia
–Kucuksu Kasri, a fine little rococo palace
–Buyukdere town, with its excellent Sadberk Hanim Museum
–Hidiv Kasri, a fine Art Nouveau villa (1900) of the Khedive of Egypt
–Tarabya village, is a pretty neighbourhood in the Sariyer district
–Sariyer town, with an attractive long shore along the water
